Purpose: The Director of Development & Alumni Relations will be responsible for the strategic development of the Campaign for Nottingham, its successful delivery and leadership of the Development Office. The Director will ensure that via exemplary leadership and management of resources that the Campaign for Nottingham is executed consistently with our fundraising strategy and goals.

The Director will co-ordinate all philanthropic fundraising initiatives within the University and will work with internal agencies to promote a consistent and coherent impression of the University's achievements, values and ambitions, to the external community.

The role demands a clear understanding of fundraising processes with an appreciation of the priorities of a large, international, research intensive University. Applicants must also exhibit superb communications, operational leadership and people management skills.

Key criteria for success

After 12 months in post, the successful candidate will have:
  • Met the campaign target for the period and publicly launched the Campaign for Nottingham
  • Increased alumni engagement, developing the alumni presence on campus and capturing alumni data; developed a thriving set of alumni groups
  • Increased market intelligence by undertaking a credible assessment of prospects
  • Ensured that the team is well managed, highly motivated, achieving individual and team targets and generally operating at optimum level
  • Established excellent working relationships with members of the senior management team and academic staff
Main duties and responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Development Office
  • Further develop and manage the Campaign for Nottingham, including all campaign activities, with a view to a public launch in late 2009. Obtain details of high priority projects from relevant internal constituents for inclusion in the campaign
  • Manage and monitor the operations and activities of all key committees overseeing the Campaign for Nottingham - including the Campaign Executive Group and the Campaign Leadership Board
  • Co-ordinate all philanthropic fundraising initiatives within the University
  • Work with the Alumni Relations team to increase alumni engagement and the alumni presence on campus. Ensure that the database is used to its full capacity in capturing alumni data.
  • Work closely with the Events Team to develop and establish a vibrant events program.
  • Support and develop relationship-building initiatives with key influencers.
  • Make fundraising approaches consistent with development strategy from all income streams, utilising the time of the Vice Chancellor and other members of the senior management team or academia where appropriate
  • Build relationships with internal agencies to ensure that a consistent and coherent understanding of the Campaign strategies and the University's broader fundraising objectives are suitably promoted to the external community.
  • Ensure the proper stewardship of donors and potential donors.
  • Work with internal agencies to expand the fundraising database with a view to maintaining a comprehensive, interactive relationship management tool throughout the University.
